I. List of 1st grade teacher duties:

  1. The Substitute Teacher will be responsible for the Instructional and Program Management for all students assigned, including but not limited to, classroom instruction, after-school and Saturday tutorials.
  2. The Substitute Teacher will administer and monitor Diagnostic Tests to determine a student’s performance level.
  3. The Substitute Teacher will instruct and motivate students in all course study.
  4. The Substitute Teacher will assign lessons and correct homework.
  5. The Substitute Teacher will administer tests to evaluate student’s progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress.
  6. The Substitute Teacher will maintain discipline in the classroom.
  7. The Substitute Teacher will maintain a classroom that is conducive to learning, safe, attractive and stimulating.
  8. The Substitute Teacher will set a good housekeeping example in the classroom and encourages students to follow this example.
  9. The Substitute Teacher will communicate with parents and schedule periodic meetings, before or after school, to discuss student progress and problems.
  10. The Substitute Teacher will participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and Substitute Teacher training workshops.
  11. The Substitute Teacher will inspire students with consistency, care, and interest to build students’ self-esteem and promote continued success.
  12. The Substitute Teacher will praise students, compliment them and encourages them in order to build character.
  13. The Substitute Teacher will utilize a variety of learning methods to enhance the students’ learning experiences.
  14. The Substitute Teacher will prepare classroom instructions to promote students’ success on the state’s assessment exams (TAKS, TEKS, and STAAR).
  15. The Substitute Teacher will work closely with the Special Education Substitute Teacher to ensure special education students’ modifications are being implemented.
  16. The Substitute Teacher will perform related duties such as assisting students, and counseling students in adjustment and academic problems.
II. List of 1st grade teacher qualifications

  1. Must be “No Child Left Behind” (NCLB) Highly Qualified (HQ) with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree (B.A.or B.S.) from four-year accredited College or University.
  2. Must meet NCLB Highly Qualified requirements (see above).
  3. Teaching experience in a Public School is preferred.
  4. Teacher’s Certification EC-6 Generalist required.
  5. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  6. Must have a passion for students.
  7. Must be able to maintain a classroom of approximately 20 students.
  8. Must have the ability and patience to work interactively with students.
  9. Must be computer literate.
  10. Must have strong organizational, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  11. Must be able to learn and implement teaching curriculum programs and instruct students on utilization.
  12. Must have the ability to understand the individual needs of each student.
  13. Must have the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  14. Must have the ability to communicate with all levels of students, their parents, the community, peers, administrative staff, Campus Directors, Superintendents, and corporate staff.
  15. Must have the ability to interpret policy, procedures, and student data such as diagnostic test results, state assessments scoring, and grade point average.
  16. Must have the ability to transition with changes.
  17. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  18. Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  19. Must have the ability to travel as necessary.
