I. List of Lead teacher duties:

  1. Assumes overall responsibility for classroom management and provides supervision to all classroom personnel.
  2. Directs and manages the activities and involvement of all classroom personnel to ensure that all activities are integrated and meet the needs of all children.
  3. Assumes full responsibility for the continual assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision of both short and long term curriculum planning to ensure that the needs of all children are met.
  4. Assumes responsibility for developing weekly lesson plans and an integrated framework of curriculum which meets the needs of all children in his/her unit.
  5. Plans and carries out all daily activities.
  6. Prepares and arranges all necessary educational materials.
  7. Assumes responsibility for the sharing of information about each child with his parents and any pertinent staff and the interdisciplinary team in order to effectively plan and coordinate appropriate courses of action for individual children and their families.
  8. Assumes responsibility for the initiation of formal and informal parent conferences, both in the facility or at individual homes, in order to establish a working relationship of cooperation and trust with parents to ensure that their child's growth and developmental needs are being adequately met.
  9. Remains informed about the status of each individual child and his family so that even casual contact with parents can represent a consistent approach on the part of the Child Development Program.
  10. Is always cognizant that parents are the first teachers of the child and know that child as well or better than the classroom teacher.
  11. Assumes overall responsibility for all classroom related data reporting and any reports – including, but not limited to, daily attendance, lunch counts, conferences, Supportive reporting, newsletter submissions, and NAEYC classroom portfolio and assessment documentation.
  12. Assumes full responsibility for the care of all classroom equipment and supplies.
  13. Attends all staff meetings.
  14. Attends all parent meetings.
  15. Reads available literature in order to remain current with developments in Early Childhood Education and child care.
  16. Participates in at least 20 hours of in-service training and/or workshops yearly.
  17. Performs any other duties which may be required by the program.
II. List of Lead teacher qualifications

  1. Passion for the mission, vision, and values of The BTU School. Experience working in an urban education setting, particularly in the primary and elementary grades.
  2. Significant expertise and demonstrated success in working collaboratively with education professionals, improving academic results, using data to enhance instruction, implementing initiatives to drive school improvement including considerable knowledge and skill in elementary scheduling and in creative and effective budgeting practices.
  3. A minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience with a track record of improving academic results. Must have a Massachusetts Teachers license and teaching experience.
  4. Proven, excellent instructional ability in both whole and small group settings, with attention to engaging students, supporting each learner, accelerating instruction, and scaffolding their progress over time using a range of data.
  5. Experience in shaping and offering a range of professional learning that connects to improved student learning.
  6. Exceptional oral and written communications skills with the capacity to move ideas from concept to implementation and the ability to synthesize, translate, and disseminate complex data into clear and understandable forms to broad and diverse audiences.
  7. Excellent interpersonal skills and a management style combining respectful collaboration with disciplined productivity. The ability to communicate and work effectively with BTU School constituents including colleagues, partners, Governing Board, students and families.
  8. Strong organizational skills and a flexible and adaptable style. The ability to work both independently without close oversight and engage productively with others.
  9. The ability to connect and align priorities with The BTU School strategic goals and mission.
  10. Strong fact-based analytic skills including the ability to collect, manage, and use data in order to inform and measure instructional improvement and academic outcomes. A results-driven approach to setting goals and celebrating accomplishments.
  11. The ability to multitask and meet deadlines often within very tight timeframes, demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, and the ability to communicate proactively.
  12. The integrity, wisdom, persistence, and humor necessary to address the needs of a young school. The respect and team orientation to diplomatically support colleagues, partners, students and families and the ability to support the continued growth and direction of the school.
  13. Track record in guiding successful development efforts including fundraising and grant writing.
  14. Ability to speak a second language preferred.
