Mentor teacher functions

In this post, you can ref key functions of Mentor teacher in details. Based on this function list, you can set up daily duties, weekly duties, monthly tasks/activities.

I. List of Mentor teacher duties:

  1. Administrative and interpersonal behaviors consistent with the expectations of the school community.
  2. Professionalism in approach to work with children and families.
  3. Confidence in performing administrative functions required to ensure the smooth and efficient daily operation of the school.
  4. Responsible for providing a safe, healthy, and positive school culture and environment.
  5. Responsible for sharing administrative coverage of extra-curricular activities.
  6. Participates in meetings as required and openly collaborates with the School Board when necessary.
  7. Comfort and capability in responding to written and oral requests for information.
  8. Leads or assists in all aspects of running the school.
  9. Hires and supervises all staff in conjunction with the other Mentors.
  10. Supervises student teachers, community volunteers, and parent teachers.
  11. Evaluates the educational process of all students in collaboration with the other Mentors and teachers.
  12. Assists in maintaining all educational, co-curricular, and extra-curricular programs and activities within the school.
  13. Assists in maintaining school-wide programs and special programs and services.
  14. Home Center management.
  15. Lead Teacher of Language Arts, Math, Science, Humanities, and Art.
  16. Dedication to the portfolio assessment process. Oversees student portfolio creation, and helps develop authentic assessment strategies for the school.
  17. Initiates and responds to requests for parent conferences.
  18. Provides information to the community when appropriate.
  19. Assists with the organization of school activities and special events.
  20. Cooperates with local governmental, civic, and professional groups when appropriate.
II. List of Mentor teacher qualifications

  1. Master’s Degree in Education
  2. 2 – 3 years of teaching experience required. Mixed age teaching experience preferred.
  3. 2 – 3 years of relevant experience as a Teacher Leader required.
  4. Experience designing and implementing content area curriculum.
  5. Comfort implementing differentiated instruction in all areas.
  6. Positive Behavior Management experience and familiarity with Responsive Classroom teaching concepts.
  7. Familiarity and confidence using technology in the classroom.
  8. Devotion to child-centered education.
  9. Educational Transcripts, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations and at least 3 letters of Reference should be submitted to the search committee for review.
