I. List of Physical
education teacher duties:
- Train and lead several Associate Teachers in daily athletic and fitness programming;
- Arrive every day with an extremely strong, positive, energetic presence to motivate and inspire students;
- Engaging and motivating all students during athletic classes;
- Design and implement daily lesson plans for athletic classes that focus on elevating heart-rate for all students, as well as fitness and/or athletic skill-building;
- Design and implement academic skill-building activities in athletic classes;
- Design, implement, and schedule one sports period for approximately 130 students with the support of 5 Associate Teachers;
- Oversee and manage multiple structured recess periods and/or lunch;
- Teach small group leveled instruction academic class;
- Provide regular rigorous constructive feedback for Associate Teachers on athletic programming;
- Provide specific and actionable feedback to students on their progress towards fitness and athletic goals;
- Collaborate with academic colleagues to build in applicable academic skills into athletic classes;
- Participate in grade-level activities and school-wide functions;
- Provide consistent rewards and/or consequences for student behavior;
- Communicate regularly and effectively with students, families, and colleagues;
- Participate in 4 after school family events every year (e.g. “parent nights”, etc.);
- Arrive promptly and professionally for every 8 hour and 25 min teacher day;
- Participate in a teacher orientation prior to the start of school;
- Other responsibilities as designated by the administration.

education teacher qualifications
- Drive to improve the minds, bodies, and lives of students in and out of the classroom;
- Proven track-record of student athletic success;
- Mastery of and enthusiasm for fitness and athletics;
- Experience motivating and inspiring students who may not have had success with athletics in the past;
- Willingness to incorporate academics into athletic classes;
- Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player;
- Bachelor’s degree is required;
- Minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban school setting preferred;
- Valid Massachusetts License in subject is required; in addition, valid Massachusetts License in ESL is preferred;
- Fluency in Spanish preferred;
- Alignment with the Academy’s core beliefs and educational philosophy is non-negotiable.
