- Subject matter to be taught – VA Standards of Learning
- Theories of learning and teaching (modifications & accommodations)

- Effective teaching methods
- Assessment principles and types
- Cognitive/Behavioral/Social Learning theories and principles
- Effective classroom management techniques
- Methods for observation/data collection
- Special education policies and procedures
- Present effective lessons aligned with appropriate standards
- Organize and plan instruction
- Establish classroom expectations and hold students accountable for meeting them
- Manage classroom behavior effectively
- Maintain positive relationships with students and co-workers
- Professional or Postgraduate certification in vocational field or endorsement in vocational course through the Virginia Department of Education
- Prefer 3+ years experience in education and various vocational fields
- Highly qualified with required competency in the trade area
- Preferred---appropriate content and grade level licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
